Flying High at American Airlines Women Pilot’s Leadership Program

Last month, American’s Tech Ops team hosted their fourth annual Female AMTs Connecting for Empowerment and Success (FACES) event at their Robert L. Crandall headquarters campus in Fort Worth, TX. As part of the session, American’s team invited wholly-owned regional carriers and hosted a breakout session for female pilots as well.

Envoy Captain Fabiola Sanchez attended as a guest speaker at a breakout event that promoted networking and professional development.

Mentorship and Milestones

During the event, Fabiola shared her journey from Flight Attendant to the American Airlines Cadet Academy to Pilot with Envoy and then, most recently, to American having received a Conditional Job Offer (CJO). Fabiola said the key to her success was “finding and working with strong mentors along the way and being a mentor for those who will come after you.”

One of Fabiola’s mentors, American Airlines Captain Christine Rupert, was also an event organizer and fellow panelist.

“It was an honor to sit next to her on the panel and discuss our experiences and journeys with others,” said Fabiola.

Aviation Aspirations

The event also included a networking social that allowed attendees to connect and learn from one another across workgroups. The second day featured panels covering various topics including leadership and American’s environmental initiatives.

During the networking sessions, Fabiola met with many aspiring pilots who were eager to learn from someone who has been where they are now.

“Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t achieve your dreams,” Fabiola said. “It won’t be an easy road, but with hard work and dedication you can do anything you put your mind to.”
