Women With Wings: Celeste Collins

Envoy Aircraft Maintenance Technician Celeste Collins did not always know that aircraft maintenance would be her career path. In fact, she explored two other fields—biomedical science and computer coding—before ultimately discovering her passion for aviation.

Initially, joining the field seemed daunting since she didn’t know much about planes, let alone how to repair them. However, after attending West-Maricopa Education Center (West-MEC) near Phoenix, Arizona, Celeste gained the necessary skills and knowledge to earn her Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certifications and was set up for success.

Building a career

Today, Celeste works as an aircraft mechanic in Phoenix (PHX) where she spends much of her time reading through system description manuals and maintaining our fleet Embraer aircraft. One of her favorite aspects of working for Envoy is simply enjoying her role and appreciating the people she works with.

“I can confidently say that I’m glad I chose Envoy,” Celeste said. “The work environment is great, the management is supportive and the overall culture is fantastic. Flight privileges are a plus, too!”

Passing the baton

Recently, Celeste had the opportunity to return to West-MEC and share her experience with aspiring AMTs. She recommended joining aviation organizations such as Women in Aviation (WAI) and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) to network and connect with other professionals in the field. These organizations also offer scholarships and grants which can be a huge help to students.

“Learn as much as you can now, because there is even more stuff to learn in the real world,” Celeste told the students. “Stay consistent with your studies and set clear goals. Don’t let distractions hinder your progress.”

Future aspirations

When she’s not working the line in Phoenix, Celeste enjoys reading and outdoor activities like hiking, camping and fishing. She also spends time with family and friends, and works out four to five times a week.

By nature, Celeste is a go-getter and that’s why aircraft maintenance is just the beginning for her.

“Celeste’s success reflects her strong commitment to her career. She proactively expands her skills and consistently exceeds expectations. Her dedication drives her growth and sets a positive example for the team. With her determination, Celeste is on track for continued success,” said PHX Maintenance Base Manager, Nathan Hewitt.  In the future, Celeste aspires to become a Pilot with Envoy and to pursue leadership positions within the Company.

Best of luck, Celeste, and see you in the skies soon!
