Celebrating International Black Aviation Day with founder Casey Grant

In honor of International Black Aviation Day (IBAD), Feb. 16, we caught up with friend of the blog, Casey Grant, a trailblazer in aviation history. We originally interviewed Casey last year, where she shared her remarkable journey as one of the first African American flight attendants. This year, the award-winning author shares an update on her latest endeavors.

Most recently, Casey has donated a collection of materials to the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture. Historical items, including her flight uniforms, pins, awards and certificates, photographs, and documents shed light on the African American flight attendants who persevered in the face of race and gender-based discrimination, paving the way for Black aviation professionals decades thereafter.

In other big news, Casey shared that she has been working diligently with Congresswoman Nikema Williams of Georgia to introduce legislature that will recognize International Black Aviation Day as an official holiday, recognized by Congress.

Thank you to Casey for staying in touch and helping us to celebrate International Black Aviation Day! For more information about Casey, her books, her course, and her musical, visit her website
