Future of Aviation Shines Bright at SUN ‘n FUN

Earlier this month, members of the Envoy Pilot and Maintenance Recruiting teams spent a week in Lakeland, Fla. to network with aviation enthusiasts from across the country at the 51st annual SUN ‘n FUN Aerospace Expo.

Sometimes called a Spring Break for pilots, SUN ‘n FUN brings a full week of aviation to the grounds (and skies) at Lakeland Linder International Airport (LAL). Many attendees made a stop at the Career Fair tent and learned from Envoy recruiters about what goes into starting a career in aviation.

“SUN ‘n FUN is very different from our usual conferences and school visits,” said Envoy Maintenance Recruiter Alex Stephens. “Here we have the chance to interact with people from all different ages and skillsets. Some of them have never even thought about a career in aviation and are only here to see the airshows, but we’re able to talk with them and show them that these careers are exciting and attainable.”

On top of stopping by our booth at the Career Fair, many aspiring Aircraft Maintenance Technicians (AMTs) had a chance to attend a presentation held by Envoy’s Maintenance Recruiting team. After the presentation, qualified attendees applied and interviewed on the spot, with 13 of them leaving with Conditional Job Offers (CJOs) to work for Envoy.

“As our fleet grows and we operate more and more daily flights for American, it’s important that we have a strong team of AMTs in place to support that growth,” said Envoy Manager of Maintenance Recruiting Steve Cates. “This event was an exciting opportunity to meet candidates face to face and tell them about all the benefits of working here and even hand out some CJOs to a few of them.”

No aerospace expo is complete without an airshow, and SUN ‘n FUN didn’t hold back. From the thrilling demonstrations during the day to the night shows that include fireworks and drone performances, there’s always a reason to keep your eyes to the sky while you’re at SUN ‘n FUN.

“It’s not every day you get to see a performance by the Blue Angels or see an F-16 fly by seconds before you actually hear it,” said Envoy First Officer Simon Lovely. “Taking a break from the flight deck to come work with the recruiting team at an event like this is such a fun experience and I can’t wait for more opportunities like this in the future.”
