During a Flight training session at Envoy Headquarters (EHQ), First Officer Brian Box (left), Capt. Jackie Walters (center) and Capt. Glynn Humphrey (right) rushed to the aid of a Professional Simulator Instructor, who suddenly and without warning began experiencing a serious medical emergency.
First Officer Box, previously a police officer and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), immediately put his training and experience to good use. Working together, the three-man team retrieved and used an Automatic Electronic Defibrillator (AED), called 911 to request assistance and helped stabilize the instructor until paramedics arrived.
“This could have been a devastating situation, and much like an emergency in the air, the team was able to assess the issue, communicate effectively, assign tasks and reach a successful outcome for everyone,” said Director, Flight Training, Capt. Allen Hill. “The instructor is back at work and we have these three heroes to thank for his quick return.”
All three recently received Real American Hero awards for their actions, which comes with a $1,000 cash prize and a very special hero cape. Way to go, team!
